The Canberra Hospital
The George Gregan Foundation enlisted the support of the ACT community to help raise funds to build an all access outdoor playground at The Canberra Hospital. Over $300,000 has been donated so far. The ACT Brumbies led the charge by supporting the Foundation's fundraising efforts at every stage. The Foundation planned to build and open this playground in 2008.
The George Gregan Foundation has now been informed that the ACT Government has announced a $300 million budget for ACT Health infrastructure and a major redevelopment of The Canberra Hospital. The redevelopment includes construction of a Women's and Children's Hospital within the existing Canberra Hospital campus with a proposed completion date of 2012. The redevelopment will impact on the construction of the playground.
It is still the Foundation's intention to build an all access playground at The Canberra Hospital and the money raised to date is being held in trust for this important project.
Key supporters of the Canberra playground to date include our generous builders – Baulderstone Hornibrook, Bluesand Foundation, Bendigo Bank (Calwell/Wanniassa Community), Health Services Australia Group, 104.7fm, Vikings Rugby Club and John and Jenny Gregan who have worked tirelessly as volunteers for the Foundation in the ACT.
Royal Childrens Hospital Brisbane
Work on the George Gregan Foundation playground at the Royal Children's Hospital has now begun. This playground is a scaled down version of the original plans due to the fact that the Royal Children's Hospital Brisbane will close in the near future. A full scale, all access playground will be built in the grounds of the new Queensland Children's Hospital and will include all the equipment originally planned for the Royal Children's Hospital.
